Most of us southern girls have grown up admiring our mothers' and grandmothers' bridal portraits. Once printed, they are such an elegant addition to your welcome table, and eventually, to the walls of your home. Your dress will never look more perfect than it does in those pictures. And here are some of our tips for making that happen.
1. Hole-y Sheet! Pardon the pun. This is a truly genius way to keep the hem of your gown flawless. The first step is to grab yourself a cheap white sheet. Target, Wal-Mart, doesn't matter. It just needs to be clean and ready to take on a pair of scissors.
Next, cut a big hole in the middle. This hole needs to be large enough for you to step both feet through. You also need enough space that you can pull the hole up to your knees. Now, put on your dress and shoes. Place the sheet on the floor and step into the circle. Now just pick up the sheet and move around as needed! When you pick your spot to pose, just tuck the sheet under your skirt. Repeat as needed!
Have a great time rocking the 'dress in a bag' look! Your photos will thank you.
2. Necklace No-No Unless you have a necklace that has sentimental value, we typically recommend that you don't wear one. Instead, a great pair of statement earrings will bring attention toward your face. And best of all, earrings never look crooked in pictures! If you choose to wear a necklace, give a friend, family member, or your planner the responsibility of making sure it is centered for your each of your shots. Sometimes that can be a lot- which is precisely why we are big fans of earrings, bracelets, and hair accessories as jewelry. No one wants to look at their amazing portraits and say, "Does my necklace look crooked?"
3. Put On Your Dancing Shoes Standing in one place for a long time will be the truest test of your shoes. Remember, no one will really see them so be sure to choose shoes that are truly comfortable for you. We love recommending wedges for outdoor ceremonies especially but every bride is different. If you can run a trail race in your stilettos, more power to you! Being sure you're comfortable from head to toe will give you the truest smile for your photos. Flats, wedges, sandals, bare feet- whatever makes your toes happiest is always the way to go.
We never said you had to sacrifice height or shine to be comfortable.
